Fiumicino – Hepatitis A, Calicchio: “Procedures dictated by ASL and respected by the municipality”
"I am surprised that former Council President Mauro Gonnelli and Councilor William De Vecchis still do not know the attributions of my Department, but perhaps the Latin motto Repetita Iuvant is really true. The control of diseases is not up to the School Department of the Municipality of Fiumicino, but to the relevant ASL. As soon as Asl Rm D informed us of the second case of Hepatitis A, necessary to speak of an epidemic and then intervene, we immediately contacted all the parents, not only of the affected class but of the entire school complex "Lo Scarabocchio". We welcomed them at the Assessorato and explained to them the prophylaxis to be followed, in consultation with the Asl: free vaccination guaranteed by the National Health Service and optional blood testing.
Of course, then it was the parents who decided how and when to act. These are the only attributions and duties of the local authority, which has moved within the limits imposed by law and privacy, respecting the children and their families. What's more, when the Asl notified us of the second case of Hepatitis A, the plexus was already closed.
Nevertheless, we have sanitized the school and implemented all the initiatives within our competence.".
